"NOVEMBER'S BIBLE STUDIES"

For a warm sunbeam, coming through your window, touching you, as gently as if the Lord's hand was softly pressed against yours. For the pleasure we feel as we are kept warm. For the smell of a delicious meal cooking. For this food that our Good Lord provided, for these things and millions of others that are daily given with mercy and love unto us, let us present 'thanksgiving' unto the Lord. We should give Him thanks every day. His Goodness is not limited to just one day a year. Every time He answers a prayer, let us give Him thanksgiving. For us to feel we can go to Him with a prayer, let us give Him thanksgiving. It's limitless.

He's waiting for us. Let's go to Him in His Word.........

I hear it said so often...
"Don't be like the unprepared virgins, keep oil in your lamps!"

Considering that, of course people want to say, "I'm keeping oil in my lamp and the wick is trimmed short,
I'm ready for the Bridegroom's arrival!"
But what does that really mean?

I read this about oil in the lamp and thought of you right away,

I think I'll share...

It is the oil that symbolizes preparedness.

The oil is the variable that needs to be constantly replenished.  It is when we bottle up extra oil and carry it around with us that we are prepared.  We need the oil because it is the oil that keeps the flame lit.

So where do we get more oil?  I have several ideas.  The first thing that comes to mind is that the oil is at church—worship, Bible study, fellowship with the faithful.  Maybe we add oil to our lamps when we partake in Holy Communion.  Another thing that comes to mind is prayer.  When we make conscious contact with God through prayer there is no doubt that our lamps are filled with oil.

How does interaction with other people add oil to our lamps?  Jesus talked about “whatever you do unto the least of these you do unto Me.”  Jesus talked about visiting the jailed, tending to the sick, feeding the hungry, and giving water to the thirsty.  We can collect food to take to the local food bank.  When we do for those in need, we are putting oil in our lamps.

When we give to ministries and the things of God, (i.e...missionaries and things benefiting the needs of others, passing out Bible tracts even)  it is putting oil in our lamps, too.  The common factor is that we are supporting God and God’s people (which is everybody) rather than just taking care of our own selves without concern for the building up of the Kingdom of God on earth.

I hope that I have encouraged you to think of ways that each of you fills your lamp with oil so that you can be prepared for the coming of Christ.  After all, when He comes, He doesn’t want to find us idle or squandering our God-given resources.

STAND STILL!

The three most common words heard among Christians in times of crisis are: "Lord, do something!" It is against our nature to stand still and do nothing when we face perplexing trials. In fact, waiting patiently for God to act is probably the most difficult thing about the Christian walk. Even devoted believers panic when the Lord does not move according to their timetable.

We constantly give God deadlines and time limits. We cry, "Lord, when are You going to do something about this? If You don't act now, it will be too late!" But God is never too late. He always acts according to His schedule, not ours.

Our God is always searching the earth for those who will trust Him in every crisis, trial and hopeless situation. Indeed, He often leads us into situations that are critical and difficult in order to test us. He wants to see if we are willing to stand still and wait for Him to bring supernatural deliverance.

The Bible states very clearly: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way" (Psalm 37:23). The Hebrew word for ordered here means "prearranged, step by step, fixed, ordained by God."

This means it is God, not the devil, who leads us into difficult places. We may cry, "Lord, why are You allowing my crisis to continue?" But the truth is, not only does He allow our trial, but He does so deliberately — for a purpose. And that is hard for us to accept.

God allows these hard things in our lives in order to produce faith in us. He is shaping us into godly examples of faith, to be His testimony to a faithless, ungodly age.

I firmly believe every step I take is ordained by our heavenly Father and He would never lead me to the brink of a difficult situation only to abandon me. He would not say, "Okay, David, I've directed you up to this point. Now you're on your own."

No! God is absolutely faithful to His children, in every crisis. He is always asking us, "Will you be one I've been searching for, one who will not panic, who will not charge Me with forsaking, abandoning and hurting My children? Will you stand still in your crisis and trust Me to see you through?"
